BRIAN RISSE

North Lincoln - Cross Country


Brian, the son of John and Dawn Risse, Is a Junior at North Lincoln High School. He is the number one runner for the North Lincoln Cross Country Team and also runs indoor and outdoor track.

Maintaining a GPA of 4.3438, his advanced courses include AP Government and Politics, AP History and AP Calculus. His extracurricular activities include the Beta Club, Habitat for Humanity and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the North Lincoln Track Clinic. A member of the Denver United Methodist Church he participates in mission trips, the youth group, Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. After graduation Brian would like a career as a Physical therapist or to go into Business.

Mary lee is a senior at Shelby High School.  Her parents are David and Erin Crow.  Mary Lee currently is the center defender for the Lady Golden Lions soccer team.  She also plays volleyball.  Her advanced courses include biology, history, english, math and civics.  She is a member of the eastside baptist church and a member of the youth group there.  She is also an assistant for the cub scouts.  Mary lee plans to attend Appalachian State University and major in nursing.

SIERRA GILEY - EAST LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL

SOCCER / TRACK

Sierra is the daughter of Tammy and Todd Gilley.  She  plays striker on the East Lincoln soccer team and also runs track.  Sierra has a grade point average of 5.045.  Her advanced courses include World History, US Government and Politics, Computer Science Principals, English Language and Composition, Calculus Ab and Bc, Us History, English Literature, Psychology, European History, Statistics, Chemistry And Environmental Science.  Sierra’s extra curricular activities include the Beta Club, National Honors Society, Math Honors Society, Science National Honors Society, Social Studies Honor Society, National Technical Honors Society, The Interact Club, Dream Team and Student Advisory Committee for Lincoln County Schools.  Her community activies include club soccer and the Lake Norman Soccer Club.  Upon graduation Sierra plans to attend a four year university and double major in Mathematics and Computer Science with a minor in business..

Hundley is the daughter of Jody and Ann Rhyne and is a small forward and shooting guard for the Lincolnton High girls basketball team. She also plays volleyball and tennis. Hundley’s advanced courses include AP World History, AP Stats, AP government, AP Language, AP Psychology, AP Biology, AP US History, AP Human Geography and AP Environment Science. She has a GPA of 5.1053.

Extracurricular activities include piano, scoreboard operator for the Lincoln Optimist, Babysitting, The Rotary Auction, Jonathan Brookins Memorial volunteer and Student Advisory Council of Lincoln County. mHundley is a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she is a member of the youth group. She also volunteers at Amy’s House, Christian Ministries, The Hessed House and the Apple Festival. She also serves as basketball coach for the Lincoln Optimist Club. After graduation Hundley plans to attend the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and major in high school education.

Austin is the son of Amy and Stephen Hilburn and is a distance runner on the North Lincoln Track and Field team. He competes in the 5K, the one mile and two mile runs.

Austin has a GPA of 5.14 taking advanced courses including AP Calculus, AP US Government, AP Geography, AP English, AP US History, AP European History, AP English Literature, AP World History, AP Physics, and AP Statistics. He is a member of the BETA Club and National Honor Society.

Austin attends Lebanon United Methodist Church. His community activities include, Volunteer at the North Lincoln Youth Track Clinic. After graduation he plans to attend with Wingate University, UNC-Chapel Hill or the University of Richmond and Major in Geography and Mathematics.

Emma is the daughter of Sarah Staller and Courtland Gain.  She is a varsity cheerleader and also runs varsity track.  Emma has  a 4.5417 grade point average.  Her advanced courses include ap biology.  Ap environmental, Art Appreciation and Nursing Fundamentals.  She is a member of nhs, nths, beta and Competative Cheerleading.  Emma is a member of the Marvin United Methodist Church and her community activities include volunteering at christian ministries and working with the community angel tree.  After graduation Emma plans to attend Gardner-Webb College and seek a nurse practicioner degree.

K.C. Champion of Kings Mountain High School  is this month’s McDonalds/ Wohs / Whats Up Shopper Scholar Athlete Of The Month.

K.C. is the son of Kevin and Kamie Champion. K.C. Plays first base for the kings mountain mountaineer baseball team and has a grade point average of 4.875.  His advanced courses include ap us goveernment.  Ap psychology, ap comparative government, ap government, ap english, and ap english literature.  He is a member of the First Baptist Church Of Kings Mountain and is involved in the Murphy’s Toy Run and Shriner’s Barbecue.  After graduation k.C. Polans to attend unc-Wilmington.

Kujuan is the son of Wesley Pryor and Neeka Odoms.  He plays slot receiver and running back for the Burns Bulldog football team.  He also plays baseball for the Bulldogs.  Kujuan has a 3.5 Grade point average.  His advance courses include american history one and two.  Kujuan is also a member of the future teachers of america club and attends ramseur baptist church.  He also helps with the reading building program with local elementary students.  After graduation kujuan plans to attend a four year college.

Holden Carpenter of West Lincoln High School is this month’s McDonald’s/KTC Broadcasting/What’s Up Shopper Scholar Athlete of the Month.

Holden, who is the son of Tonya and David Carpenter, plays soccer and runs cross country. He is a member of the West Lincoln Track Team. Holden has a GPA of 4.67. His advanced courses include AP Literature and Composition, AP Government and AP US History. A member of the New Vision Ministry Church, he is involved with the Ignite Student Youth Group.

Upon graduation, Holden plans to enroll at a community college for 2 years and then transfer to NC State and major in Agriculture.

Kaniyah is the daughter of Donyell McCluney and Tonya Thompson. Kaniyah plays basketball for the Lady Golden Lions and has a grade point average of 4.2. Her advanced courses include Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, English with Honors, Civics and Economics. Her extracurricular activities include the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Relay for Life, C.T.E. National Honor Society, The Environmental Club and Junior Civitans. Kaniyah is a member of Faith Harvest Church. Her community activities include volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and The Bi-com Restoration and Learning Academy. She plans to attend a four year university and major in Nursing with the goal to become a Nurse Practioneer.

The McDonald's / KTC Broadcasting / What's Up Shopper Scholar Athlete Award is sponsored by the McDonald's Restaurants in Shelby and Kings Mountain, WOHS Radio and The What's Up Shopper.  The purpose of the award is to recognize a student athlete not only for accomplishments in athletics but also for achievements in the classroom and for overall school and community citizenship.

Meredith is the daughter of Ken and M’Shel Bowen and plays soccer and volleyball at Cherryville High School. She has a grade point average of 4.75. Her advanced classes include AP Government, AP US History, and AP English 12. In addition to playing soccer and volleyball Meredith is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Interact Club and the Metalheads. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cherryville where she is involved with the youth group and The Carolina Cross Connection. Her community activities include being a volunteer for Who-Ville , Octoberfest and the Community Garden. After graduation she plans to attend NC State University and major in Business.
